Demons prefer blonds is a debut paranormal book for new author Sidney Ayers and boy does it deliver! It has plenty of action, witty humor and fabulous characters.The book is well written and such a fun read.

I can't wait until the next book in the Demons Unleashed Series - Demons Like It Hot comes out in December!

My Review - 4.5

I am a big fan of Terry Spear's wolf series and when I had the chance to review the newest one I jumped at it. It is a great addition to the series. There is action, adventure, mystery and romance...from start to finish the book kept me so involved I couldn't put the book down.

I also loved the characters. Ian the Scottish Laird of a castle who falls for Julia Wildthorn, the paranormal romance author! (imagine that!) And the way they meet is priceless! ;) The secondary characters were also amazing including Ian's brothers Marcus and Duncan. I can't wait to see if they end up in their own book! I sure hope they do! :)

My Review -

This is the first book I have read by Linda Wisdom and it won't be my last. The book is the first book in a new paranormal romance series and the story is about Maggie who is a witch who works as a paranormal police officer. I really liked the character of Maggie.... and Declan was smoking hot! He sizzled on the pages! The book had me giggling and anxiously awaiting the next book in the series to see what has happened to these characters!

A Day in the Life of An Author

Oh, you know, a day in the life of an author is just like you imagine: we sleep late, get a massage, drink champagne for brunch and caviar for snack, think about a story, write a sentence, eat bon bons, shop online for hours, talk to Oprah about the interview, pause for a mani/pedi, and then, of course, a booksigning!

You know I’m lying. I’d never shop online for hours! Honestly, the myth of a romance writer’s life was definitely created by someone who never made a living writing novels. A day in the life of an author is not nearly that glamorous and includes a whole heck of, well, writing. There’s some twittering and email, and a fair share of chocolate (more like Hershey Kisses than bon bons), and, of course, we watch Oprah even when we’re not on the show.

A day in the life of this author includes motherhood duties, as well, so throw in some laundry, a school pick up, reviewing homework, and taking someone to dance or violin or track practice. Somewhere in all that, I write between two and five thousand words a day (usually closer to two) or I edit, revise, research, and think. There’s a lot of thinking. I’ve been known to think right through a conversation and forget I had it.

Yes, there is the occasional booksigning and I do squeeze in a mani/pedi now and then, but mostly a day (and night) in the life of a writer consists of sitting at my desk, staring at the computer screen, and making stuff up. And, honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

And there is the fun times when a book comes out…or, like this spring for me, when two books come out. The release of SHIVER OF FEAR and FACE OF DANGER are a welcome break and change, giving me an opportunity to meet with readers like this and celebrate the new books!

My Review -

I love Lydia Dare. There I said it...I just adore her books! It happened one bite is the latest book in a series that did not disapoint! As soon as I started the book I could not put it down! I was up into morning finishing this book. James is a perfectly yummy vampire Lord. Blaire is a spitfire with a spine of steel. They are a perfect match in this story. I love that characters from past books in the series also made their way into this book..I love to know how my favorite couples lives turn out so that was a cherry on top of the book for me.

So glad to be here, thanks for inviting me over to your "pad". :)

Could you tell us a bit about your new book?

Sure! THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES is the ultimate expose. All her life Seattle reporter Kristin Reed sought her breakout story. She never thought she’d find it in the crimson lair of a real life creature of the night. Kristin never believed vampires existed—until with dark brooding eyes and a decadent chocolate scent, Dmitri Dionotte called out to her….

Dmitri and his clan’s true nature was cloaked in secrecy until a warring vampire order threatened their existence. Kristin was just the woman he needed. She couldn’t resist their story…or Dmitri. Her blood pulsed hot and furious when he touched her, and with his kiss, all logic fled. But each night she spent with her vampire lover brought her closer to death and destruction. A death not even an immortal could triumph over.

How did you come up for the idea for this book?

The idea for my vampire world actually started with a very intense dream, which became the novella SALVATION OF THE DAMNED, which is now in print for the first time in the back of THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES (so you’re getting a two-fer there). But when I started really thinking past that one story, I really thought about what would happen if vampires actually revealed themselves to human, came out of the coffin, so to speak. Who would reveal something like that, and under what circumstances would it happen? That’s when Kristin popped into my head, followed quickly by Dmitri.

When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning? Or name characters after friends/family?

Actually I give it a whole lot of thought. When I start writing, I usually come up with the basic ideas and then I go straight to the names of my characters and "run the numbers" on them. Basically I use some numerological processes to derive the goal, conflict and motivation of my character just from how his or her name is spelled, then dive into some of my other favorite character reference books and create a plot out of my characters.

What are you working on now?

For the next two months I'm writing the third book in the Sons of Midnight mini-series, The VAMPIRE HALF-BREED. At least that's the working title for now. It’s looking at the dynamics of other supernaturals and how they work with vampire society, in this case werewolves and a vampire with a secret that’s going to blow his happy little world apart faster than the big bad wolf.

Book number two in the series, THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME, will be out in June (it’s Achilles and Beck’s story, fyi, for those reading The Truth About Vampires. They were just such strong secondary characters I couldn’t let go.).

Then in May I’ll switch gears and starting writing my second steampunk romance, which involves airships, a sheriff from the wild weird west who’s from a family of hunters and a vampire countess from Europe. The first one, THE HUNTER, comes out this fall.

Now a bit more personal....Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m the second only child in my family. Which means I have a half brother but we were far enough apart in age that really it was like being raised totally in different worlds because we moved cross country when he was little and I was 12. And technically we are both are father’s only children (she divorced when I was very little).

My mom was a very creative person and always tried to make the world a very magical place for us. I have a very vivid memory in particular of when I was little her reading the Shoemaker and the Elves to me. She paused and told me to listen and you could hear little tiny voices outside my bedroom window. The next morning my hideous room was all cleaned. My mom said it must have been the elves (just like in the story) who lived in the tree stump in our backyard so I ought to make them some cookies or clothes or something. I did. It wasn’t until I was 27 that my mom confessed that she’d used a tape recorder playing under my window and just left a long gap at the front of it so she’d have time to tuck me in and read the story to me first.

That all kind of fed into my experiences of reading a lot as a tween, and eventually at 17 starting to write my own stories.

What happened then? Well, I married my high school sweetheart when we were both 19. (I knew this guy was gold when he was willing to go to the PROM with me with my little brother wedged between us in the back seat and my parents driving us, even though he has his license and his own car.) We went to college together (graduating on the same day at the same ceremony). And eventually I went into public relations for about 20 years, working first in corporate, then at the largest agency in Arizona, then opening my own agency. All that time I kept writing fiction for myself, working at getting published.

We now live on a mini-farm outside Seattle with a horse, chickens rabbits, cats, a mini-aussie shepherd dog, the kids and have a pretty normal life. It’s just if you ask the kids what mom does all day they’ll say she sits in front of her computer and types.

Who are your favorite authors?

I have so many! I love to read. Some of my current favorites are Gail Carriger, James Rollins, Yasmin Galenorn, Zoe Archer, Julia Quinn, Teresa Medieros, Cherry Adair, Kim Harrison, and J.R. Ward. When I started reading romance I adored Judith McNaught, Jude Devereaux and Victoria Holt.

Did you ever think you would become an author?

Yes. Which sounds funny until you realize I started to love writing at age 13. I just thought I was going to be (and tried really hard for a lot of years) a career journalist. But even younger than that (before I learned how to work with my dyslexia read at age 8 or 9) I was telling stories to myself in a tape recorder for hours. (In fact I have a tape somewhere with a story I created that sounds very similar to Toy Story from the 70s.) I started writing my first novel at age 17, got my first NY agent at 26. Hey, it’s only taken me 20 years to become an “author”.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

I get to make stuff up for a living! The downside is that I’m not always in control of key career stuff that matters and I really do think my backside is getting over-developed from too much use!

Who/what is/are your inspiration?

I get inspiration from everything. Songs, advertisements, pictures, bits of dialogue I overhear in the grocery line. I usually write to a sound track I create for each book and have a specially scented candle that’ll I use with each book.

Hi Alayna, Welcome to Froggarita's Bookcase!
Thanks so much for having me! I'm excited to meet you and your readers.

Could you tell us a bit about your new book?
It's called ROGUE ORACLE.
Tara Sheridan is the best criminal profiler around - and the most unconventional. Trained as a forensic psychologist, Tara also specializes in Tarot card reading. But she doesn't need her divination skills to realize that the new assignment from her friend and sometime lover, Agent Harry Li, is a dangerous proposition in every way.

Former Cold War operatives, all linked to a top-secret operation tracking the disposal of nuclear weapons in Russia, are disappearing. There are no bodies, and no clues to their whereabouts. Harry suspects a conspiracy to sell arms to the highest bidder. The cards - and Tara's increasingly ominous dreams - suggest something darker. Even as Tara sorts through her feelings for Harry and her fractured relationships with the mysterious order known as Delphi's Daughters, a killer is growing more ruthless by the day. And a nightmare that began decades ago in Chernobyl will reach a terrifying endgame that not even Tara could have foreseen.

How did you come up for the idea for this book?
I've been puttering around with Tarot cards since I was a teenager, and always enjoyed the stories they tell. I'd had the idea for a criminal profiler who uses Tarot cards to solve crimes for awhile...I hadn't seen the idea used before, so I decided to go for it.

The Chernobyl part of the story is from old childhood fears. I was in elementary school at the time, and I remember some of the images. I was a bystander's bystander...half a world away. But there was something supernaturally fearsome about that incident that lodged in my head, and I wanted to write about it.

When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?Or name characters after friends/family?
None of my characters are named after real people. I tend to choose names that have a symbolic tie to the story. "Tara," for instance, means "star"...and the Star is a card in the Tarot deck. Her last name, "Sheridan," means "searcher." I thought that would be a perfect name for a criminal profiler.

Her romantic interest, Harry, has a name that means "leader of an army." And his last name, "Li," is roughly equivalent to "reason" or "logic." Harry is a skeptic, and he makes a good foil to Tara's intuitive powers.

What are you working on now?
I've got a couple of new things in the works. I can't say much about them, except to say that there will be more things that go bump in the night. I've always loved supernatural stories, and am scribbling furiously to keep up with ideas.

Now a bit more personal....Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I'm a bit of an odd duck. My background is in information technology, criminology, and library science. I live in the Midwest, where my husband and I are owned by four semi-reformed feral cats. My hobbies include astronomy and belly dancing...I do neither one well, but I enjoy them.

Who are your favorite authors?
I love fantasy, urban fantasy, magical realism, contemporary fantasy. Some of my all-time favorites are: Robin McKinley, Ann Aguirre, Peter S. Beagle, Patricia McKillip, Jeri Smith-Ready, Jessa Slade, M.L.N. Hanover

Did you ever think you would become an author?
I'm still pinching myself! I've always been scrawling stories, every since I've been old enough to hold a crayon. It still seems a bit surreal to be able to see my work in print. It was a long road, but I'm thrilled to be on it. I'm excited that other people want to read what I've written...it's the best feeling in the world.

What’s the best thing about being an author?
The research. I get to investigate all kinds of things that tempt my curiosity: the Oracle of Delphi, Tarot cards, spontaneous human combustion, dark matter, elementals...I love hammering a story out of the research.

Who/what is/are your inspiration?
For the ORACLE books, I use Tarot cards as story prompts. Whenever I get stuck on a character or plot point, I pick a card and follow it down the rabbit holes the picture leads me. It's a fun way to work.

For instance, Tara, the protagonist, was inspired by the Queen of Swords. The card shows a dark-haired woman in armor, holding a sword against a stormy sky. The image is about strength and sorrow, and really allowed me to focus on drawing a character with words.

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a tranquil 2011.

Why do you like to read?

For me, I like to escape from reality and keep the juices flowing in my head. After a long day at work and having to deal with the responsibilities of life, a good book can calm me down. Reading opens my mind to possibilities. It takes me on a journey, sometimes into another world. Characters have problems just we all do. I love conflict and struggle, especially when it's not mine. Moreover, I like to read new stories with fresh ideas. Though I love vampire books, sometimes I feel as if they blend and lack uniqueness. I still read them because I'm a vampire lover and can't pass them up.

Another reason I love to read is because I learn from what I read. I see different styles and come up with my own unique ideas. In Stephen King's book On Writing, he says to ask "What if?" That question sticks in my head every time I finish a book.

I used to watch a lot of movies and television. Now, I rarely do. Books are my outlet. Though I enjoy certain movies and shows, if I only had books, I would be happy.

I've asked a few people I work with why they read. Answers varied. One person told me to escape. Another said they only read when they have a clear head. If they feel stressed, they cannot sit down and read. A third person said they read when they have time, which sounded to me like they really didn't enjoy reading. Another person reads only a very few select books and couldn't explain why. I think they were scared to try others, which seemed odd to me. But people are people. Each to their own.

So, I'm curious. Why do you like to read?

My Review -

This is the first time I have read a book by the author Kresley Cole and it won't be the last! I found Dreams of a Dark Warrior to be an engaging tale of love and soul mates that was had action, adventure and romance all rolled into one book. Reincarnation is one of my favorite themes to read and Kresley mixed it so well with the theme of an immortal. The characters were well formed and I loved the world created with all the supernatural characters. I do hope to see more of the supporting characters in their own book soon..I'd love to know what happens to my favorite characters from the book like Thad. :)
I definitely recommend this book and I am definitely going to be reading the first 10 books of this series!

Could you tell us a bit about your new book?

Thanks for having me! This is an awesome site. “Darklands: A Vampire’s Tale” is quite a different take on what is currently on the market for vampire fiction or what is now considered vampire fiction, but is really romance. I decided to take the opposite road with my vamps. They are a fairly despicable bunch, I have to admit. On the surface, most of the characters appear pretty brutal, but I think if you decide to read a little further, you’ll see some decent reasoning behind the shitty attitudes.

How did you come up for the idea for this book?

I’ve always been a horror-girl. Although I love the idea of the romantic vampire, I realize I am not a romance writer, just as I am not a romance reader. I began toying with the seed of this novel a long time ago, and it changed and hopefully evolved into something people might find both scary and entertaining to read.

When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning

Or name characters after friends/family?

I actually used the internet to find names. I start with the nationality of the character and go from there. I never use the names of people I personally know. It might feel weird writing the sex scenes if I used my grandma’s first name. Or worse, it would be tough to kill off someone who shares his name with your favorite uncle.

What are you working on now?

I have a vampire/end of the world novel I am working on. This one is sure to have characters who are a bit more upstanding and decent than “Darklands.” There’ll be a touch of unrequited love thrown in, as well! I am also planning a few “naughty” tales under a pen name.

Now a bit more personal....Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I have been married for over twenty years—I met my husband when I was in the tenth grade (he was a junior!). We have a twenty-one year old daughter & no those number don’t exactly jive. We also have a nine year-old son. I am a Realtor, but only part-time, at this point. I am finishing my double major B.A. in Journalism and English with hopes to start grad school in 2012.

Oh, yeah. I also own the indie publisher, Naked Snake Press.

Who are your favorite authors?

I have so many! I have always loved Stephen King, but who doesn’t? I also enjoy Caitlin R. Kiernan, Conrad Williams, Joel Lane. I also like Amanda Hocking. She’s not only a terrific writer, but a huge inspiration for all indie authors.

Did you ever think you would become an author?

I have written stories and poems since I could pick up a pencil. Getting up the nerve to share my work with others was a tougher obstacle to climb.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

Creating character that I find interesting. Plus, it’s neat to hang out in a world of my own making for at least a few minutes a day.

Who/what is/are your inspiration?

People who decide to go against the grain and do their own thing. Independent film makers, musicians and of course, authors inspire me. I love people who just will not take “no” for an answer.

My Review

Another hit from Nicole Peeler! I loved the first book and the second one didn't disappoint.
This book starts a few months after book 1 ended and we follow Jane through her starting to learn magic from Nell the Gnome to going to Boston for the weekend to be with Ryu. That is when things start to really get interesting!! On a date with Ryu they start to get attacked by fireballs! This leads Jane into finding out about another halfling who now has seen Jane and wants her for himself. Jane is now in the middle of the investagation trying to find the halfling while trying to stay alive!
Most of the same characters are there from book 1 which is great..I loved her friend Iris and don't forget Anyan! This is a must read book that I throughly enjoyed. There was so much action, suspense and romance in this one that I gobbled this book up in hours!
I will point out though that when I read book 1 I was a total team Ryu fan but now after reading book 2 I have to say I changed my mind...and I am now on team Anyan supporter!
